2017 Tennis ELO Awards - Winners

The voting is over, and it's time to announce the winners! Find out who won the inaugural Tennis ELO awards after the jump. This year, the polls took place on Twitter, and if you haven't done so already, follow @tennis_elo to be the 1st to hear of new blog posts and more.





Player of the Year - Men's
Nominees:
  • Fabio Fognini - For his performance at Miami.
  • Sam Querrey - For his performance at Wimbledon and at Acapulco.
  • Andrey Rublev - For his performance at the US Open and at Umag.
  • Mischa Zverev - For his performance at the Australian Open and at Geneva.


Mischa Zverev won the poll this year with 45% of the vote, after a season where he earned 27 ELO rating points over the year. Congratulations! Last year's winner, Juan Martin del Potro, has continued his good form by improving to #5 in my rankings this year, how well will Mischa do next year?


Player of the Year - Women's

Nominees:
  • Caroline Garcia - For her performance at Wuhan and at Beijing.
  • Mirjana Lucic-Baroni - For her performance at the Australian Open.
  • Garbine Muguruza - For her performance at Wimbldeon and at Cincinnati.
  • Katerina Siniakova - For her performance at Shenzhen and at Bastad.

Caroline Garcia was the most dominant winner this year, winning with 79% of the vote in what was by far the most popular of the 4 polls. She gained 174 ELO rating points this year and finished #5 in my rankings. Congratulations! Last year's winner, Svetlana Kuznetsova, didn't have a great season this year as she lost 34 ELO rating points. Can Caroline keep her good form up next year?


Disappointment of the Year - Men's

Nominees:
  • Novak Djokovic
  • Nick Kyrgios
  • Andy Murray
  • Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Novak Djokovic had a disappointing season, which resulted in him losing 47 ELO rating points before he ended his season early. Last year's "winner", Rafael Nadal, made a huge comeback and is up to #3 on my rankings, can Novak do the same next year?


Disappointment of the Year - Women's

Nominees:
  • Dominika Cibulkova
  • Simona Halep
  • Angelique Kerber
  • Elina Svitolina
Angelique Kerber had a disaster of a season, where she lost 158 ELO rating points and fell to #24 in my rankings. Last year's "winner", Venus Williams, did much better this season and moved up to #7 in my rankings, can Angelique make a comeback next year?
